Exogyra Costata
Exogyra Costata from the Late Cretaceous Period, 66 million to 100 million year ago. Weight 1.9 lbs., 5"L x 4-1/4"W x 2-1/2"H Collected from the North Sulphur River in N.E. Texas. This specimen has most of its top shell intact, which is rare to find. The larger part commonly seen is actually the bottom, since it rested on the shallow sea floor, while the smaller part opened to intake nutrients, as do modern day oysters.
